Hello all:
Well, The HT is complete, and now I am buying a HI DEFINITION DISC PLAYER. Here it is: I have a Samsung FP-T6374 HDTV PLASMA (1080P). I have my system wired and ready for 7.1 right now, and it's all running through my new Onkyo TX-SR875. The picture on this set is truly sharper than anything I've ever seen(have a HD Cable box right now and a Yammy C750 DVD player), and I haven't even had my plasma calibrated yet:)( ). When you look at my profile signature at the end of this post, you will probably notice my desire for detail in sound also.(I hope my speaker choices say that. LOL) I want to go with a format in the next 3 weeks (Blu-Ray or HD), but since both their picture quality's look so damn good, I'll purchase the one that offers the most detailed sound I can get out of my 875 on a 7.1 playback. I ask all of you please,to suggest what you honestly believe is best for my decision, based on what I have right now. Many thanks to all of my fellow A/V Extremests out there!! I LOVE THIS STUFF!!! :) In case any of you are wondering about my insistence on getting one or the other right now (BD or HD), matters beyond my control have forced me to make a choice right now. (I'm not upset about it that much though. Just can't go too nuts on the pricetag. What else is new, right?) Joe B.

The sound offered by both is identical and for all intents and purposes, so is the video. You need to look at the movies that are available as well as the release schedules and decide based on movies you are interested in.

I don't know how many other discs are like this, but the Transformers HD-DVD didn't have room for an umcompressed audio track. I've never run across that with any Blu-ray disc. If audio is truly your deciding factor, then I would think you should lean a little more towards Blu-ray.

But as John said, they're pretty much the same.

Okay it's Blu_Ray for me. Which one do I get now?

My previous post said that I was trying to "Pull the Trigger" on one HI DEF format or the other. I just wanted a few opinions on which format would better suit my love for sound. Well I'm going with a Blu Ray player, and I want to get the one that will benefit, and most of all, UTILIZE my curent 7.1 set up the best. Anyone care to voice in? Seriously though, Would those of you who know of the Onkyo 875's capabilities, mind giving a suggestion on which Blu Ray player I should go with, based on my set up? Oh, forgot one other tiny detail. A unit that happens to be somewhat affordable, would be apreciated too.:D

The Panasonic DMP-BD30K is the best stand alone BD player available and will work just fine with your Onkyo 875. It's available in the mid to low 400's online.

I would suggest the same for BD. Only 1.1 profile player out there right now. In addition it is the one that is not having boot or other flaky issues if you research the various forums. I have been quite happy with mine.

That would be my choice of player right now too. It or the PS3.

Thank you for your responses! One more question now...

Since I've now made my decision to get the Panasonic DMP-BD30K, does anyone know where (online preferably) to get the best deal on this unit right now? (including any BD movie offers)
I'm also going to get the Toshiba HD A35 (as a Christmas gift from my family), and I want to help them get as good a deal as possible (preferably online too, if possible). (including the numerous HD movies with this unit) So I'm looking for the same kind of help with this unit also.

Thank you everyone and Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year to all! Joe B. :D

Buy.com has the best online price for the DMP-BD30K, but you may have to order it and wait a little while for the product to be in stock. I had to wait about 1.5 weeks, but as soon as it was in stock, it was shipped and arrived in 3 days (free shipping). As for BD movies, there's BOGO deals all over the place. Just do a little searching on the web.

Amazon has the best price on this unit as well as some good HD DVD movie deals. There is generally less HD DVD movie deals around than BD movie deals.
