OK I am dropping speaker wire from the attic today, and wondering whats the best way to "fish" the wire? Should I start at the end point and push up to the attic and then drop down to the AV unit? Or take whole roll to the attic and drop to each location? are there spiffy tools to help?

**waits untill the next brain storm hits**

Drop down to each location from the attic. Much easier this way. Let gravity help.

I have used, in the past, a long peice of solid copper wire about 1/4" in diameter to help with the fishing. It's thin enough to bend if needed and also thick enough to be fairly rigid. I taped the speaker wire to the end of the copper wire and fished it down each wall. If you can have somone else there with you it would really speed things up. One of you can fish the wire down the wall and the other can grab it. It helps having someone jiggling the wire around so you can locate it.

Anyway good luck and I hope it's fairly cool where you are. Here it Texas, you would melt after about 10 minutes in an attic.

A small dentist-type mirror also helps from time to time - especially if you're doing it solo and have no "jiggler".

Electrician's fishing "tape"

... is essentially a reel (coil) of thin metal strip that can be inserted into a small hole in the room's wall and pushed upwards to the attic. Then it's a simple matter of attaching the wire to it and pulling it, and the attached wire, down to the hole in tha wall.

Be aware that some towns mandate "fire blocks" in newer construction which is essentially a 2X4 or the like going across from stud to stud. This will make droping (or fishing) a wire much more difficult.

WOW Finally dropped the wire this weekend and what a MISSION!

attic space was maybe 4 foot clearance and the trusses (spelling?) were shped like A's rather then V's. UGH it was steaming hot, see I live in Florida and the afternoon sun right after rain made it a virtual sauna. All in all a grueling task, but worth it when I sat down and watched the opening battle to Gladiator :D then the pod race from Phantom Mennace :D :D

I think next time I will pay someone to do it LOL, but knowing me and how much I like doing the "dirty" work even though I complain about it, I would end up doing it myself.

OHHHHH and a word of wisdom, NEVER EVER fart while up in the attic, I am still recovering!

Heres to crisp pictures and soul moving sound!
