Ohms Question; OMG!!

I know there have been lots of Ohms questions but I might have something a little different here. My brain simply doesn't want to do it right know.

What ohm speaker would I get if I put two 10 ohm drivers and a 6 ohm driver together. This is a center channel speaker by the way.

They are all attached to a x-over the 6 ohm driver is the tweeter and the other two drivers are 5.25" mid-bass.

Not to sound redundant, but...

... how do you plan to connect those two 5.25" mid bass drivers? Series or parallel?

This is not a do it your self project, but rather a factory center channel speaker. I am just wondering how they came up with an 8 ohm rating for the speaker. As for it being series or parallel I honestly don't know. I used to know, but I need re-educated.:D

If a speaker were to be designed using drivers mounted in parallel (say 8ohm nominal,) how do the designers compensate to make an 8 ohm nominal speaker?

It seems all you have to do is add resistors into the speakers crossover wiring to create the desired resistance.

What were the factors which led to 8ohms being chosen as the nominal impedance for home stereo speakers?

Crossover design

The design of the crossover effects the nominal impedance of the speaker. Unless you are designing Bose quality speakers, you will want a crossover from the tweeter to mids to balance the levels and feed each driver the appropriate frequency range.
If you are not into the crossover design part of speaker building, consider a kit from general research, parts express or other sources.

Here is another idea. Purchase a pair of Used or B-stock Onix X-LS speakers. Do the DIY ninja crossover upgrades and add NoRes to the cabinet for a DIY project.
