I would advise against it. The 4 ohm load can be a drain to your avr is it's not up to the task. You can balance the system if you are familiar with setting distances, etc... but it may take some time. It may be hard to level match the system. Can you be more specific with what speakers and what receiver you are using?

Then if you use 8 Ohm speakers in a 5.1,would it be possible to use 6 or 4 Ohm in a zone 2 set up. I ask this because I'm leaning that way and curious.

Are you talking powering it from the receiver by reassigning amps from the main room or are you talking with an external amp? With an external amp, the impedance won't matter to your receiver. Based on what you said, it sounds like the first one, and I would say you'll be better off with 6 or 8 Ohm speakers in the other zones or use an external amp.

I have ZERO experience with home audio/theater and am in the process of putting together a low budget system. What I have to work with so far is an Onkyo TX-SR800 AV receiver, 1 ea. Klipsch RC-35 Center Channel, and 4 ea. Klipsch SS-1 Surrounds. The Klipsch are all 8 ohm.
The reason I asked this question is that friend offered me his Dantax Vision II speakers which are rated at 4 ohm to use as right and left front. Educate Me:confused: Thanks, Greg
I'm still looking for a quality, possibly used Subwoofer!!
