I’ve been mildly looking for speakers while building my home theater and noticed a couple of manufacturers don’t cover blown voicecoils in their warranty. I think this is particularly odd. To me, that’s like buying a new car and not having the engine warrantied because the engine quit working. Am I off base? Does anybody else think this is odd?

Oh definitely not, and that’s why I started this thread. I realize abusing speakers could damage a voicecoil, but isn’t it also possible to get a bad or weak voicecoil at time of manufacture - especially with so many speaker components being built in China now days? It’s almost like the speaker manufacturer wants the customer to take the hit for an inferior component – and it’s the most likely one to fail on top of it. Not good business practice as far as I’m concerned. That’s why I’d like to know if I’m looking at this from the right angle.
