Odd shape room speaker placement

Hi,

I am trying to put together my first HT system, and my situation is a little complicated as the room is not rectangular (please see the attached floor plan). My main problem is that I can't mount the surround speakers on the side walls (at least not on one side), which leaves me just the rear wall right behind the couch.

When I was discussing this problem with someone at a local retail store, he suggested that I go for bipolar surrounds on the rear wall (something like Definitive BP1.2x).

I wanted to see if there are any other options I can try, or would my surrounds work fine by being just behind the couch?

Thanks in advance!

Use direct radiators and fire them directly at each other along the wall above the couch. Space them about 10' apart.

In-ceiling speakers are an even better solution, if that is possible. There are a number of dipole in-ceiling speakers that would work well if mounted above the seated position as side surrounds.

Thanks for the quick response!

I forgot to mention that the room has vaulted ceiling ~20 feet high - can't use any ceiling mounts.

Not hijacking the thread...but I have a similar problem. Should the ceiling-mounted speakers be placed directly above the listening position, behind, to the side?
