Anyone keeping up with the Obama insults to Great Britain?

Barry's first action as commander in chief was to return the famous Churchill bust that was gifted to the United States after 9/11. (which has rested in the oval office ever since) Not any more! Then Barry unceremoniously blows off the British prime ministers arrival and press conference. Both were scheduled to speak, but Obama decided not to show up.

And how about the gift gaffe? Unbelievable.....................
PM Brown gave two symbolic gifts as is the norm for such historic first time meetings. Brown came bearing a pen holder carved from the timbers of the sister ship of that which gave the wood to create the famous "Resolute Desk," the desk that has been in America's charge since 1880. He also gave Obama the framed commission for that famous ship, the HMS Resolute. His third gift was a seven-volume biography of one of England's greatest leaders, Winston Churchill. What did Obama give?? He sent a staffer to walmart to pick up 25 Region 1 DVDs that wont even play on Europes Region 2 DVD players
???

I thought Osama's strength was supposed to be diplomacy????

I hear the press in the UK is abuzz with these classless snubs, but of course.........you wont hear any reporting of this classless behavior during our evening "Drive By" telecasts Ohhh NO, not the US Obama Networks......they are MUM.

PS........
PM Brown gifted pricey dresses and jewery to Obamas daughters. What did Michelle do? She rushed a staffer down to the white house gift shop and picked up 2 toy Marine 1 helecoptors.

How embarrassing:eek:

I feel so ashamed............

And apparently the State Department isn't immune to large gaffs. Yesterday Hillary presented the Russian President with a button that was supposed to say "Restart" (for diplomacy between Russia and the U.S.), which instead said "Overcharged". Nice. An entire State Department and no Russian interpreter checked it out???

In geopolitical terms, pushing Britain into France and Germany's sphere of influence is not good diplomacy, nor is further isolating America from it's allies during the current volatile reorganization of international alliances.

my point was, if britain wishes to change it's stance on it's alliance with the US based on gifts ... errr ... :D

Let's not rush to judge, what were the 25 DVD's ;)

Seriously, that is pretty sad, but maybe Obama is more about finding resolutions to current economic crisis than gift giving (and this is coming from a guy who voted for McCain).

Deliberate disrespect is a serious blunder in diplomacy, especially in a democracy with a free press (and there is no freer press than in Britain). It's not about gifts, per se, but rather the rudeness and thoughtlessness that Obama displayed to Brown with his refusal to hold a joint press conference, meet him at his plane, etc. The issue of the gifts is just part of an overall series of events that fills out the whole story and the British media will likely run with this for a long time. Brown's whole visit is a diplomatic blunder of epic proportions on Obama's part. This may cause the loss of Britain's support in any of several international committees or world bodies where the US needs allies. Should Obama diss the Queen when he visits, all bets are off.

Just to show that the tone of diplomatic conversations can have serious repercussions, I offer this:

im sure there's a team of think tanks doing the thinking for what obama wishes to achieve :)

could there have been a purpose to all this?

oh, and apparently the prussians and french have been looking for a reason to go to war :) it could have been a fart in the wrong direction :)

Nice list of DVD's if somebody gave me those, I would be happy. :D Granted a Region 1 player to play them on would be nice also.

Well said....

I find it interesting that resident Obam-ites would actually defend such classless behavior by our nations leader. Afterall, Barry was billed as the Messiah who would restore our 'allegedly' tarnished diplomatic relations around the globe. So far........he's done nothing but to demonstrate his knack for the exact opposite.

On point, as always Dave.

It was intentional, he doesn't seem to like the Brit's or Churchill:
"The Times of London immediately traced Obama's "disdain" for Churchill to Kenya, where Obama's grandfather was caught up in the Churchill-led suppression of the 1950s Mau Mau Rebellion..."
