Nvidia Shield TV decode?

Hi there guys.
I'd like to know if an AV receiver is able to accept and decode surround sound from a streaming box like a Nvidia Shield TV?

So, for example I want to watch Stranger Things on my Nvidia Shield TV, but I'd like to do so with the AVR decoding the audio and actually getting surround sound. Can it be done?

Also, if it can be done, what kind of settings would I have to make to the Nvidia's sound output?

Thank you!!

PS: what's better overall: Roku Ultra vs Amazon Fire TV vs Nvidia Shield TV?

The AVR will process surround sound from the Shield. I believe you just set it as HDMI passthrough. I can check when I get home if nobody else gives you a definitive answer before then. Shield is the way to go, it is the most powerful of the three.

I have 2 shields and use them for online streaming, NAS streaming, and TV viewing (I record TV to the Plex Server on the NAS although the shield can run a Plex Server as well).

No issues with any sound formats...in fact it is why I switched from my Raspberry Pis and Rokus...more formats supported (at that time a couple years ago)
