I am just starting to read up on this forum. I am interested in a DLP television around 50". From what I have read the Samsungs and the Mistsubishis are the most recommended. But when I looked at the models at the Circuit City the Toshiba seemed to have the best picture. For some reason it was a brighter picture than the others. Also correct me if i am wrong, Companies are now making 1080p models that will project a sharper image, more pixels. But nobody is broadcasting that way as of yet. So 1080p is more for the future than the now. I want the best possible picture do I need to purchace the 1080p to assure that I do in the future.

Thanks,
The Weasel

Just letting you know, brighter isn't always better. I can almost guarantee that the Toshiba's brightness was boosted in its menu. You should go back & mess around with the other tv's display settings as well. Like i said though, brighter isn't always better, and by boosting the brightness, the tv's black level will be off. (basically, the blacks wont be as black as the TV can display...they'll be lighter)

Hello SDY is correct most of the Big Box stores simply place the TV's on display without any calibration these sets often ship from the factory in torch mode with the contrast, brightness and sharpness set at insane levels.
Demoing the sets in this manner would be like trying to pick speakers with earplugs in ;)
