This is actually pertaining to CAR AUDIO, but I think the same principles have to do with HOME AUDIO.

My Head Unit in my car has custum settings for fine adjusting an equalizer curve, specifically pertaining to the LOW/MID/HIGH CENTER FREQUENCY and Q FACTOR. However, I have no idea what this means or even how to properly set them.

I am able to select the desired frequency such as:
LOW: 40-80-100-160
MID: 200-500-1000-2000
HIGH: 3150-8000-10000-12500

I can adjust each frequency + and - directions but have no idea how to get the optimun sound I desire.

Do I treat this as a standard EQUALIZER curve settings with 40z being the furthest left and 12500 being the furthest right (like on a home equalizer or a digital one on a computer program such as WINAMP or iTUNES)??? What exactly does all this CENTER FREQUENCY and Q FACTOR stuff mean?

Thanks for any and all help.

Looks like a GEQ to me. Treat it just like you said. If you have the option to run "FLAT" and bypass this feature, that is what I would recommend. :) But, if you find you like the sound better with it adjusted, go for it. ;)

Q factor as I remember is a rate or slope factor. thus at a specific frequency you can narrowly boost that frequency or a wider range around that frequency.

It has something about 2W 1W 1N and 2N. And when I go to 2W, a little icon above said frequency gets bigger. And when I go towards 2N, its gets smaller.

So I am guessing W = wider and N = narrow.

I have played around with it a bit, and it seems to make some big differences. The only thing is I can only select one of the said frequencies in the HIGH - MID - LOW that I mentioned above. Like if I go to LOW, I can only select and adjust one of the frequencies I choose, like 80Hz.

Guess I am going to have to really try a lot wth these settings. And with the help I got here I think I understand it a lot more. Thanks.
