Not going to sleep until I get sound

I've been waiting all week for my new harman kardon SB16 to arrive. Ive got everything connected but I'm not getting sound. Here's the set up (it is very simple).

Cable box, blue ray and apple tv. 3 hdmi's all going to the tv. The soundbar is connected via an optical cord.

I disabled the tv speaker.

The strange part is I'm getting Audio from the apple tv. Blue ray a d cable box...nothing.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance to anyone who can lend a hand to this tired noobie.

Set your blu-ray and cable box audio to PCM instead of bitstream. If there's a 2 channel PCM option use that.

Why are you connecting to the TV? Connect the sources to the receiver and one HDMI cable to the TV.

Is your soundbar powered or not?

The BDP and Digital cable box are routing the sound to the TV, but the TV is only rerouting sound which is encoded in a format that can be transfered via toslink.

What you probably need is an analog connection from TV to Soundbar.
