Hi guys,

hope you don't mind this type of question. As the title says, I'm not audiophil, but I have found out that I love good sound. This happened whened when i moved from some really cheap headphones to sennheiser px 100 (i know, that's also some very cheap low-end headphones for you guys :D )

Anyway, I would like to buy some speakers and i would like them to be at least a bit better than all those common logitech or creative speakers people usually buy. Unfortunately i was not able to orientate myself in all this audio stuff and that's why I wanted to ask you for help.

I would like to buy 5.1 system for movies, music and games (i know that all in one is not very ideal solution, but i need this compromise)
Price range should be something like this (i know it's not enough if you want hi quality audio, but again - compromise):

(please add www to the addresses below, i can't post url's without 5 posts and i would hate to post useless posts just for this)
front pair: psbspeakers.com/products/Alpha-Series/Alpha-T1-Tower
back pair: psbspeakers.com/products/Alpha-Series/Alpha-B1-Monitor
center: psbspeakers.com/products/Alpha-Series/Alpha-C1-Center
subwoofer: psbspeakers.com/products/Subwoofers/SubSeries-6i-Subwoofer

So do you think the above speakers are ok? Are they the best for the price or do you think there is a better alternative for the same money?
I guess I will need some amplifier, right? Can you recomend something?

Many thanks.

If I were in your position, I would listen to all the speakers I could. And not the lower priced stuff at Best Buy, etc. but good speakers, because they have more impact on system performance than any other piece of the system.

And don't ignore Internet Direct or ID companies like Axiom, AV123, Aperion Audio, SV Sound, Emotiva, etc.

For example, I've owned High end JBL, Boston Acustics, Klipsch and asked on these forums for some $600.00 bookshelves. Adam recommended Aperion Audio, an ID company, so I tried their 632 LR bookshelves and fell in love with their sound. Now, except for my sub, my entire surround speaker system is Aperion.

All ID companies give a 30 day in home audition period, and if you don't like them, just ship them back.

Good Luck :)
