Not A Happy New Year For Some...

I suggest that we should all pause for a moment to think about our fellow citizens and service people in less pleasant locations on the planet. I want to express my condolences to the families of the 4 Canadian soldiers and a journalist and the 7 CIA members killed in Afghanistan by the Taliban yesterday. Their families won't be enjoying any New Year celebrations today. I also wish speedy recoveries for the wounded from both attacks.

If I'm not mistaken, 2009 saw the worst death toll for Canadian troops in Afghanistan since this whole sad affair started. Let's hope that this year sees an improvement in the situation there.

The US forces lost about twice as many in '09 as the year before, too. I don't like where the numbers are headed. I also don't like the amount of recent activity. Why the CIA bomber wasn't inspected before entering, I don't know but I do know that Congress is micro-managing everything that happens over there.
