I just bought my 1st HDTV, Westinghouse 42" LCD (LVM42W2).
Now I'm thinking I should probably update my speaker set as well.
Right now I'm only using Logitech Z560 PC speaker. I don't like it due to the fact that it's a 4.1 set and its sub sounds muddy.

I've narrowed down my choice to:
1) SLS Q
1) Yamaha YSP1000 + a Hsu/SVS sub
2) Dedicated Receiver* + SVS SB-01 5.1 speakers
3) Dedicated Receiver* + Klipsch F-3 5.1 speakers

*Dedicated receiver choices are:
1) Yamaha RX-V2600
2) Denon 2805

Please share your opinion/experience with me.

Thanks!

PS:
-Room is 15x15 with cathedral ceiling and open space (another room, no wall) on the right side
-I've listened to YSP1000 (w/o sub) and Klipsch F-3 5.1 set (w/ some Yamaha), F-3 totally blew me away. But then I tried lifting one speaker and I couldn't. So I want to avoid floorstanding speakers if I don't have to.

Cathedral ceiling and 'open area' to me are red flags that you'll need a decently beefy sub. If the budge will allow, consider an HSU VTF-3.

For receiver, I'd say either Denon or Pioneer. For the money, you just can't beat them IMO. The Yammy isn't bad but IMO not the same.

For speakers, personally, I think the Ascend Acoustics little 170's are a killer speaker for the money. Cross them over to a good sub and they'll amaze for the money.

Speaker options

I think that a 5.1 bookshelf and receiver system is your best bet.
The Yamaha RX-V2600 is a great receiver, but its performance level is not matched by the entrly level speaker systems you list.

Consider adjusting your budget and spending $5-600 on the receiver (Yamaha 2500 or Denon 3805) and the rest on speakers.
If you like Klispch, check out their reference bookshelf speakers like the RB-51 and RB-61 at a local dealer. While you are there, listen to some paradigms. There are also some great internet direct options like the above mentioned Ascend as well as Axiom Audio, and Onix X-LS speakers from av123.com
SVS and HSU are great option for subs, and av123 has a couple of their 10" and 12" models on sale.
