I'm in the process of setting up a 3.1 system. I bought a Yamaha RX-V667 and a Cambridge Soundworks center channel to match my CSW's Newton M80's. I haven't bought the sub yet but it'll probably be a CSW sub.

Anyway, my question is, if I'm going from the cable box to the receiver to the TV that means that I need to always have the receiver on to watch TV right? Is there a way to watch using only the TV speakers, cause I might not always want to watch while listening on the large speakers?

Run the video directly to the TV.

Run two audio lines: One to the TV, and one to the receiver.

When you want to use the receiver, simply turn the TV volume all the way down.

markw,

Thanks for the reply. I'm using HDMI cables so can I still do what your recommending?

I believe the sound is passed to your TV via the HDMI cable already so you should not need an additional audio connection.

As for the receiver, yes, you will need an additional audio link. Use the best your cable box allows, be it digital or analog.
