Noob with VGA, Component, and Wii questions

So my ancient LCD TV's backlight just died. I'm going to try to fix it (look for that exciting thread soon :)) In the meantime I found a killer deal on a new LED. Like most TVs these days, it lacks some of the more archaic input formats like Composite. It does have component and VGA inputs but no S-video.

So... I have a Wii with Composite. I can buy VGA or Component cables for it. Which one is the higher resolution choice? What is the best output resolution of the Wii?

I also use the Wii for a TON of Netflix. Does the Wii automatically choose the output resolution based on the cable it uses? I'm having that trouble right now with my Roku on HDMI... it automatically selects HD format and my ISP throughput isn't enough to support it. Upgrades to bandwidth are in the near future but I just want to know what to expect.

Wii resolution is limited at 480p. So ether cable will be more than able to deliver max resolution.
Wii can only play sd video. Id pick component cable since its more mainstream and compatible with recievers
