ok i am purchasing psb image series t55's and s50's and was wondering which center would be the best solution the (c40 or the c60) i have plenty of room for either but i have heard that the smaller one would be clearer due to the smaller woofer due to less bass. and another question is, is psb's subs any good compared to svs subs. i have not had the pleasure of hearing either sub.also i have this jvc reciever and am planning on using it for a couple months will it be ok or should i upgrade before getting the speakers?

thanks any and all help appreciated

Congrats on the great purchases. I'm a huge PSB fan myself and that's what my HT is made up of. I'd say go c40 so that all your drivers match and you save a little dough, both centers sound great though.

PSB makes some great subs, but they do tend to be a little more $$$ than some of the competition. Also they rate their products very conservatively so the ratings they give may not look as impressive as a sub they will out-perform. That said the SVS subs are supposed to be just killer and you would save money going with one of their entry level subs like the PB-10. Room measurements would help to determine what size sub you need. There are several brands of sub out there though, so don't limit you're search to just SVS and PSB. I haven't heard any SVS subs, but I'd think they'd make the better buy between the mentioned brands if you are in the US. If you're in Canada I'd say HSU. I have heard HSU subs and I think they are a real bargin up North.

That JVC is really underpowered for the task IMO. If you plan on playing music and movies at reasonable volumes in a small to medium sized room while you wait to upgrade you'll be fine though. Just don't crank it up to the point where you let clipping set in. The PSB's you have are not the most efficient speaker out there (not a bad thing at all just means they like the juice) and you should notice an improvement when you step up to a more powerful receiver.

my room size is 16wide 15 deep 9ft ceilings and i might be buying the yamaha htr 5850 now due to budget constraints or would the yamaha not be worth it and just wait? i've been looking at the dennon 3806 yamaha rxv2600 if those are better suited as far as power than the 5850 then i may wait. i also was thinking of going velodyne subs but not real informed on the best sub solution still researching that and thanks again.

I'd say wait for the receiver. The 5850 is a great receiver, but I think you'd be better served with something a little more powerful. If you were willing to go with last years models you can save a ton on them right now. Take a look at the cost on the 3805 and the 2500 unless you need hdmi. Here's an example. The warranties may only be 90 days and 30 days respectively but just get the extended one through Ubid if it's a problem. They are a reputable company IMO and experience. $459 for that Yammie is a damn steal.

that is a pretty nice price tag on the yamaha i can get the v1600 for the same price as the dennon. would the 2500 be enough power to upgrade to now or should i go bigger or can you add amps to this setup down the road no experience with amps except for car audio and probably the same philosophy i suppose and my ht setup would be 90% movies/gaming 10% music if that helps any.

I don't know about the quality of the pre-outs on the 1600 but I assume they are at least as good as on the 2500 and 1500. The pre outs on the 2500 are so good that Audioholics reccomends it as a pre in a pre/pro setup so adding an amp or two further down the line would be no problem at all. I do think the 2500 should have the juice you need. While not the most efficient speakers the t55's aren't total pigs and IMO a 2500 would do a great job with them. I use a Marantz 8400 to power my setup and I'd say it is very much up to the task. The power of it and the Yamaha 2500 are pretty comperable IMO. My setup needs less juice than those towers, but not a ton less. The worst case scenario is that you get an awesome receiver that would have set you back a grand a year ago for $500 shipped that will make a great pre for you in the future if you decide you want more amplification. Also when you get a good sub it will be responsible for the lower frequencies and will take a ton of pressure off of the amp so you may never need to buy seperates.

Not a prob at all, congrats again on those speakers, thats a really good price from an authorized brick and mortar dealer. Once you get a good sub and a good receiver I think you will be blown away.

Congrats on your puchase jbo247. I too have a complete PSB speaker packagae using T45s for my L/R, Image 8C center. Image 1B for my surrounds and a Subsonic5 for my sub. The system rocks much to my spouse's disgust .

I want to clarify something Taker said about a recommened center channel. The C40 uses 5.25" drivers and I believe the T55 uses 6.5" drivers. Although PSB designs their speaker line to be have the same tonality within each speaker series (image series tonality is the same across that line) , I believe the C60 is the better option as it sports the identical driver as your T55s.

3db is right, I realized that as soon as i read his post today. Sorry to mislead you, it was unintentional. For some reason I had myself convinced the c40 had the 6.5"s. I don't think you'll notice too much of a difference but the C60 is the speaker with the matching drivers, and IMO will be a better match. Sorry again.

never ever buy from an unauthorized dealer because if it breaks, you end up eating repair costs and sometimes those costs can be as high as the receiver you just bought

Denon vs. Yamaha

The Denon 2805 is closer in power and performance to the Yamaha RX-V1500. I would pick up one of the refubished 2500's on ubid for <$500. You might consider trying the new speakers with your current receiver to see if the $500 dollars would be better spent on the 10" SVS sub.

You will not be dissapointed with a sub from SVS. They are great. Their customer service guys will help recommend subs as well. You give them your room size and other components plus movie and music interests and they will try match your needs.
