Noisy Power Conditioner

I acquired a power conditioner used for the old mini computers. Believe it's 120V 20amp. I know it would be perfect for my all my equipment, especially since we seem to be having a lot of power interruptions lately. The unit has a constant buzz to it. I thought about running a long cable through the basement to get to it, but doubt there's any way to meet electric code :) Short of building a vented box, and not sure that's legal either, is it possible to quiet the unit down?

Thing must weigh nearly 100 lbs!

Short of going inside it, not advised, to find the source and fix, you may want to try a cheater plug, not a final solution either, to see if that eliminates the buzz. All else failing, a hush box, vented. Does that unit gets hot?

You could very well be hearing a delaminated transformer. Not much you can do about it short of replacement, which would probably be pretty costly.

I never paid attention to how hot it gets, the metal cabinet looks like swiss cheese. The thing has these huge capacitors, and provides absolutely perfect power. I've even used it to bump up serious brown out power to 120V. Unfortunately put too much load on the 15a house breaker and tripped it. Maybe I'll pull it out of the basement and take another listen to the noise level.
