Hi
currently i getting my HTPC built but for the time being i am using my current personal computers Digital Coaxal output to get surround sound into my amp. what i notice every now and then is a strange noise passed through, it sort of sounds like wind blowing over a mic[very fine noise]. it only comes when there are dialogues in the movie. you cant notice them when there is music or loud dialogues.

At first i thought this would be happening because of low bit rate on audio track in divx file. but i played a divx file with lower audio bit rate, it wasnt present.

I have onboard Realtek High Def Audio.

what could be the problem guys?

I hear this in certain movies too, under the same circumstances. On a home setup. No clue what it is, bump for ya.

The problem is most likely in the divx file itself, are they pcm or ac3 audio format? If your not sure there is a utility called g-spot that will let you know, it's a free download, if you can't find it I'll link it at a later date.

I would probably guess it's an issue with the encoding software, most likely using the fraunhoffer codec instead of the prefered Lame codec, but I can't be too sure without a copy of the file for analasys. At the least someone could try it on a different system.

Hi
do you know how i can make the file encode using lame rather than fraunhoff?

Some of the movies straight off the dvd will have some noise with the dialouge because of the way the dialouge was recorded, and in order to preserve the clarity of the voice they have to leave some of the noise with it. That's why you only hear the noise when the person is talking, so if that's the case using a different codec will not likely make much difference.
