Noise from Denon DVM 1835

I have a DVD/CD player changer that is noisy. Sounds like the old LPs when they were dirty. I have tried used and brand new DVDs with the same crackling from the speakers. Sound from the speakers are fine when I turn off the DVD unit.
The Denon DVM 1835 is a couple of years old and has only been used 8 times.

It may be dirt on the laser lens. Take off the init cover and clean the lens with a Q-tip soaked in isopropyl alcohol.

If that does not do the trick then there are deeper problems.
