NO Video Out from Pioneer VSX-90 - HELP PLEASE

Hi all,

I just bought the Pioneer VSX-90 AV receiver for my living room. I have an Apple TV 4th Gen and Roku 3 attached to BD and DVD inputs, and the MAIN HDMI Out to an 4k LED TV (LG UF7700) also pretty new.

I am getting NO video signal on my LG TV from Apple TV and Roku. I can see the OSD though and menu, the Internet Music thing, Spotify and Pandora all shows up on the TV but not the sources that are on HDMI 1-6 (tried all inputs). The video signal however works on the other HDMI output i.e.. HDZONE. But I can’t switch inputs on HDZONE nor can I do ARC. I have tried to switch ON/OFF ARC and CEC on both, the TV and AVR, no go. I have also swapped two units from Best Buy so it’s not defective. I've reset all settings on TV and the AVR twice but again no video out from MAIN (HDMI OUT 1).

I am in LOVE with this AVR, the music sounds amazing and I want to keep it, so can anyone please advise on the video out signal issue? I have only a few more days till I can return and get a different AVR.

Thanks

Hi Sanju and welcome to the forum.

Are you getting audio when using those sources through the AVR? I have not owned a Pioneer in a while but you may need to set up each input in the AVR and configure what connection type it is using. Also check to make sure any scaling or video conversion is turned off.

You almost certainly have to go into the menus and assign what input goes to what source button. If you haven't done that, then read the manual.

I have a VSX-90. Perhaps you have a BD player you could use to test the input. Also change out the cables to be sure they aren't bad. For the others, the HDMI ports are labelled. So if you connect to the BD input and choose BD on the input selector, that is all that should be necessary.

I would tend to blame the streamers before the receiver but you need to do some basic troubleshooting.

Were these devices previously connected to something and working via HDMI? Most of them default to analog if they have analog connections for the first configuration and you have to enable HDMI.

Adk Highlander .. YOU DID IT!! After hours of resetting and troubleshooting, it went down to only ONE small and silly setting ie. SCAL from AUTO to PURE. That did it, and I have video and audio both.

Thanks a billion!

Thanks but what worked is changing SCAL from AUTO to PURE so that essentially is making the AVR not upscale and let the LG TV do it's upscaling. That did it, and I have video and audio both.

Dunno why auto wouldn't work, that's odd.

Glad you are up and going. I have the VSX-82, pretty similar AVR

Yeah it's weird, I thought the same that AUTO should go either way, but the TV probably didn't like it. What's weirder is that the HDZONE (HDMI 2 OUT) works absolutely fine with video and audio. You think the MAIN (HDMI 1 OUT) only performs upscaling? I thought both the HDMI out did.

Gosh!!! I just connected my PS3 to HDMI2 and there's no video, only sound. The video scaling is set to PURE as well. Not working. Any ideas for the PS3?
