CD mode - Surround sound works properly
DTV mode - Surround sound works properly
DVD mode - No surround sound, but sound works properly through the tv. So I do get sound, just not surround sound. Also, as a side note, if I turn the receiver volume up really high, I can hear sound from the DTV channel coming through my surround sound.

I have my PS3 hooked up and I use it for playing video games and watching MLB.tv in "DVD" mode. I haven't used my PS3 in a while, but the last time I used it, the surround sound was working properly. There is someone else who uses my system occasionally, but that person claims to have not tampered / changed anything or know why the surround sound won't work in DVD mode.

I have checked the wiring, the settings / options on the receiver, as well as the tv settings and settings on the ps3. I am guessing it is a receiver issue, but after spending an hour or two trying to figure it out, I am not sure what the problem is. I have taken a look at the manual and did a search online, but I am still not sure what the problem is.

The PS3 is hooked up with HDMI cables. One to the tv from the PS3 and one from the tv to the receiver. I know I have to switch from X mode to "DVD" mode on my receiver and also make sure the proper HDMI channel is selected on my tv so that it works properly. I am adding this in case anyone was wondering how I have the PS3 wired.

If anyone has any idea on what the problem may be or the best way to troubleshoot, your help would be greatly appreciated.

swap the CD DVD inputs on the receiver to see if the issue follows the input. If it does, then its a setting on your PS3 and not the receiver.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure how that is possible. I have a 2->1 RCA cable in the CD slot so I can use my ipod on the surround sound. For the PS3 I am using an HDMI cord to the tv and then there is an HDMI cord + an RGB cord that also goes from the monitor to the receiver.

I am not sure if this accomplished the same thing suggested in the post above, but I did move the DTV RCA's on the receiver up to the DVD slots and I was able to get surround sound from the TV while in "DVD" mode on the receiver.

I checked the audio settings on the PS3 again and I still can't get the surround sound to work. As far as I know, the only thing that has changed since the surround sound for the PS3 last worked are the updates I had to do for the PS3 when I turned it on as I haven't used it in a while. However, PS3 updates have never messed up the surround sound in the past, so I'm not sure that's what caused the problem.

Update: I tried pretty much everything I could think of and so did my brother. Today he suggested that we hook up the audio from the PS3 to the receiver with RCA's and call it a day. So that's what we did. Surround sound is now working again with the PS3. Thank you.
