no surround sound from TV

I tried connecting the red and white cables from audio in to the receiver (video 1 & video 2) and still can't get the surround sound from the TV. I have a Sony receiver. Thanks for your help.

try your TV menu and turn off the speakers and set audio to out ???? !!!

You need to connect Audio OUT on the tv to Video1 IN on the receiver. This would give your receiver an analog stereo signal. You can then set a surround mode on the receiver (ProLogic, PLII, PLIIx or whatever you have) to get surround sound.
