I just bought an amp to build a new sub for my computer speakers. I purchased the Foster plate amp from here:

http://home.comcast.net/~jhidley/

I get no output from the sub, and there is a ticking sound coming from the amp, even with nothing plugged into the input. Is it defective?

Yes it is defective. It sounds as if it has a low end switching power supply which is has a fault all too common in that type of power supply.

Thanks for the reply TLS, but I just need more practice wiring up DVC subs
A few minutes with the soldering gun fixed it and I'm enjoying awesome bass at my computer now :D

So you must have had a short, making the power supply cycle.
