As a reviewer (much less the host of AV Rant), I am asked on a regular basis for my opinion. Everyone from the checkout guy at the supermarket to random people at parties want me to tell them which is the best display or speakers or HTiB. Audioholics has put together a number of documents to help people help themselves. This will probably not really be one of them. Someone once said that there are no stupid questions. That person was stupid. This installment will deal with questions about players.

how they measure contrast ratios by tossing little plastic Smurfs coated in bacon grease at their dog and multiply the number eaten by 1000 and putting a :1 after it.

Excellent rant , but im one of those that still runs CRT . All my equipment is a little Dated , but it works for me .

nice rant, but i disagree about the demise of blu-ray. i don't think downloading will catch on unless it's visibly better than sd-dvd. too many people spent a lot of money on HD displays to only get sd quality. any analogy to audio is rife w/ the error that we are more of a visual society than an audio society. people see hd and are wowed, people hear poor sound but still buy it, regardless of the price (think bose). just my two cents.
