I plugged in my Onkyo stereo and had sound for about 5 minutes. SOon afterwards, The sound was very soft (had to turn it up full blast to get some sound) and I could not fix it. did not here a zap or buzz of any sort prior to itgoing out. Any help would be great.

You may need to go over your wiring and modes on the receiver that the right buttons are pushed and not the wrong ones ;)
You could have inadvertantlypushed a button. Check the display to see if any mode is lit that may cause it to mute like this? Night/midnight mode? Tape monitor, etc.
