no sound though hdmi

Hi all. I am running hdmi cable through my onkyo tx sr876 for my pc. The problem is I have video but not sound. I am ready to take a hammer to this as it was working and now it doesnt. Any suggestions? I have checked all the settings I can think of, updated driver so I am hoping someone may have an idea how to resolve this. Thanks in advance for your help!

I'd suggest that you check and make sure that the audio on the Onkyo is still set to HDMI for whichever input you are using with the PC. Also, check the audio setting on your PC and make sure that it's set to output audio through the HDMI port. I recently posted the following, and I'll just quote it here:

Hi. I have an HDMI output on my PC. In my case, I need to set in Windows if I want audio to go out the HDMI port or out through my soundcard. It doesn't do both. So, if you haven't tried this already, I'd suggest that you go to the following control panel:

Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Sound

Select the "Playback" tab, and there should be a list of devices. One of those should be for your HDMI port. If so, set that as the default.

If that doesn't work, or you've already tried all that, please let us know so that we can try again.

Thanks Adam..what you suggested were the first things I tried..I even reset my onkyo thinking that was the issue. Its really bugging me..lol.

You say that it was working before, but then stopped working? Can you think of anything that changed between when it was working and now? Was there anyone else using your system?

Yes it was working...I havent used it in a few months so I have no idea what may have caused problem. I just completed full system restore..still doesnt work yet it shows bars on hdmi setup when I play music. Go figure.

did you go to control panel and make sure HDMI is set as the defalut audio output device?

Yes...default is set to hdmi. My soundcard is realteck HD

Try going into the volume controler on your pc and make sure that all of the sliders are un muted, they can sometimes get muted somehow.
