No sound on Right channel speaker

I have lost my right main channel when I play a DVD/CD on a DVD player. If one plays a disc on another DVD or CD player the R channel works fine. The DVD player is now 5 years old and my guess is that something finally happened to it to cause no sound from the right front main. Has anyone heard of something happening to a DVD player that could cause this?

How do you have it connected to the receiver (or TV)? Optical/coaxial, red & white analog, HDMI, etc...? Does everything else play back fine?

Component video to the TV and analog red/white to the pre amp. All speakers are fine but for the R front main. I am thinking that something may have happened to the DVD player. After 5 years of useage, it just seems like a possibility.

I've had CD players last well over 10 years, but some DVD players don't seem to be quite up to that same level. Try connecting it to a different input (CD, CDR, etc...) to see if it does the same thing, and also try swapping the R & L connections. I'd also try swapping the cable out for a different one just on the off chance that it is the problem.

Now, you know that you can't get true multichannel audio with just the R & L analog connection right? Do the player and preamp have digital connections?

I've also had a CD player that after 8 to 9 years of service still ran well. The DVD player has also been connected multi channel and digitally via a optical link.
Yes I realize that a L/R audio connect will not provide a multi channel output.
I'll play with it some more, see what happens. Thanks for the help.

So, when watching DVDs, are you watching them via digital or analog on the receiver? If you are watching via analog then it could be the player. If digital, then the player probably isn't the problem. If you play a CD in this player, does it play correctly?

Analog connection. a CD will play but only via the L channel. I did spend some time with T/S and he feels that something too must have gone wrong with the unit for it not to output sound to all channels. It does look it is time to take it out of the rack and at some point go BR shopping.
