No sound from source devices connected via hdmi when using Denon AVR3313 as a pre-amp

I have used this AVR connected to a Blu-ray and PVR without issue for about 6 months but decided to buy a power amp to better run my two bookshelf speakers (2 channel is all I'm running in the current set-up). I hooked up a NAD C275BEE power amp and the Denon's built-in functions such as Internet Radio and Spotify work fine, however source devices that are connected via HDMI (a Bluray and PVR) show the video fine but no audio. I have checked the volume levels on the source devices and made sure they are not muted. Any help greatly appreciated!

Did you tell those two devices to output audio via HDMI? Did you assign those HDMI inputs on the AVR to the inputs you are using for those devices? Volume levels on the source devices don't apply when using HDMI, only analog.

Welcome to the forum!

Which two RCA jacks did you use on the back of the Denon to connect to the NAD? Double check that you connected the "FL" and "FR" jacks from the "PRE OUT" set of jacks. If you used one of the zone outputs (Zone 2 or Zone 3) or the Media Player output jacks - those would work with the built-in functions but not with an HDMI input. The Denon won't convert a digital audio input into an analog output except for when you use the "PRE OUT" jacks.

You must use the 'PRE-OUT' outputs ont he back of the Denon. They are clearly marked and you should use 'FL' and 'FR' outputs.

They are to the right of the 'MEDIA PLAYER' and 'ZONE 2' and 'ZONE 3' outputs...

Thanks to all for the replies.

Yeah I can confirm that I used the "FL" and "FR" jacks from the "PRE OUT" set of jacks to connect the NAD Power amp.

J-Garcia - I haven't told the Blu-ray and PVR to output audio via HDMI (but they were running fine when connected to the Denon AVR before I hooked up the pre-amp, and I also connected them directly to the TV to double-check they were working fine).

Have you tried plugging anything in directly to the NAD amp to ensure the speakers are playing back correctly directly from the amp? You can plug in a iPhone (or similar) with a 1/8" mini to RCA cable and this way you can drive the speakers and adjust volume so you are blowing the speakers out during testing. The NAD has a number of dip switches on the back as well as an attenuator which could be the cause of your headache here. You want to be sure the speakers are wired into the 'SPEAKERS A' terminal on the back of the NAD, that the 12v trigger is set to 'OFF' (I believe), and that the input level knob is set to '0'. I'm NOT sure what the 'FIX'/'VAR' input select dip switch does. Oh, and make sure 'bridge mode' is turned off on the amp. If you hear audio when connected to your iPhone then I would expect you to hear audio from the A/V receiver. I've used the 3313 a number of times, and when I haven't heard audio, it has always been due to the amplifier, not because of the wiring to the amp. You do want to go into your speaker settings and ensure that all the speakers are turned to 'ON' as well, just in case that could be the issue.

I would assume FIX/VAR dip switch would bypass the level knob.

Ok... seems a factory reset of the AVR3313 did the trick!

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and sorry for not trying it earlier
