I have a Denon 684 receiver and Harmon Kardon DVD Player and 2 HD TV receivers and only have 2 inputs for HD on my HDTV My Denon had 2 component plugins and a Component Monitor output so I ran the #2 HD Receiver and the DVD player to the Denon thru component cables. The HD rec. is Optic connected to the denon for sound and the DVD is digital coax connected to the denon there is only 2 Optic inputs and 1 dig. coax and I'm not getting sound from the DVD player the #2 HD Box is working ok but when I try the DVD I get the sound from the #1 HD box which is connected by a Optic cable also. I've tryed different sound settings on the denon and I also switched the DVD to optic and it it dosen't work that way either, but it works fine if i run it direct comp. to the TV. Am I missing a setting or something on the receiver, I disconnected both the Optic and tryed the DVD player that way too and no sound. It has to be the Denon not recongnizing the coax and the component connected to it I get the picture but the wrong sound.

Most likely you haven't done the digital audio assignment. You have to tell the receiver which digital input goes with which source selector; ie when you press DVD, it should expect to find the sound at optical 1 (or whichever input you used).

Not familiar with the model number but if it is an older receiver it may not let you assign the inputs but it will definitely have defaults; eg by default DVD might look for the sound from coax1 and you would therefore have to connect it to coax1. You'll have to check out the manual to be sure.
