No sound coming from speakers.

Hi,

I bought a Dayton Audio SUB-1500 two days ago and even though the sub is working, there is no sound coming out of the speakers I'm using.
I tried measuring the output channels with a voltmeter and I'm not getting a reading. At one point there was a slight negative current as the read out...

Would it make sense that there is something wrong with the channels?

I'm not using a receiver for now, since its an active sub. I only just ordered a pair of Pioneer sp-bs22's but they don't get there till Monday. So I borrowed a Yamaha NS-1000 Monitor speaker to try test it out. The sub like I said is a Dayton Audio SUB-1500, I also tried a random little satellite from a crappy set of computer speakers.

...?
Check your volt meter to make sure it is set to AC. You should not have any negative current or negative voltage that you should be measuring, not current. How were you powering the Yam speaker and the Dayton?

And yes, your components and how you hooked them up is important to help.

Oh sorry not current, voltage, and it was only for half a second if that. Just thought it worth mentioning. Also the voltmeter was set to AC as you mention. The Dayton has its own power cord, and since the Dayton has output channels, I connected the the Yamaha with speaker wire from there.

I just posted in the other thread, think your problem is not using high level inputs for the high level outputs. The sub's amp isn't going to provide power for your speakers, only the sub; just uses the high level inputs as a signal source for the sub's amp.

Thanks by the way I replied on the other thread, sorry for technically having a double thread...

Yes, but where does the audio source coming from as I am not familiar with that Yamaha setup.
The sub is not a source for audio by itself.
I think you may not be understanding how to set it up and may be missing critical components and instructions.

I forgot to mention that. I only sad the sub was working, I realize now that doesn't mean much. But, I meant working as in it was getting input, the source being a TV. I could hear the lower frequencies coming from the sub, but nothing out of the Yamaha's.

lovinthehd did say thou that the problem is that the Dayton SUB-1500's amp won't power the speakers, it just passes the signal on to speakers it doesn't drive them. So I need a separate amp/receiver/power source for the speakers(If I understood correctly). His comment is two comments above.

Yes, the sub would work from the line level inputs from the tv, but it won't pass anything useful to the high level outputs to drive your speakers. You need an amp to connect to the high level inputs to test the speakers on the high level outputs....

There are plenty of class T, H, and D small amps for under $60
