Speaker technology has come a long way in 30 years and great sound can be had for far less nowadays. I think you might be a little shocked if you got out and listened a little. Running 4 speakers the way you have it set up is not really recommended because it causes a lot of interference. It really slops up and smears the sound. Google comb filtering for a deeper explanation if you like.

I don't doubt that you like how it sounds now, but with a little bit of experimentation some different positioning I think you might find some big improvements you didn't know were possible. You'll never know until you try...

I was thinking that the Onkyo TX-RZ820 would work with the speakers I have now.

What are your thoughts about that?

It has 2 separate speaker channels that would separate the different speaker impedances with no issue. Right?

That Onkyo has seven discrete amplification channels. It isn't particularly rated for 4 ohms, tho it has a spec for short term bursts at 4 ohm. The separate channels will help, but it (and avrs in general) are limited by their power supply. It would likely work fine, tho. Personally I'd look more to Denon.

Thanks for responding! Which Denon Model(s) do you suggest? I liked the Onkyo TX-RZ820 because it has a dedicated iPod USB slot and it seems to have 4 ohm speaker capability on 1 channel. Like I said - I don't know what I'm doing right or wrong.

I'd probably not go lower than the 3xxx series from Denon myself. Some good close-out deals on the 3500 have been available ($550 at Amazon last I looked). Can't help you with the iPod aspect....does it do Airplay?

Thanks, I see them now and will consider them along with all the other responses. Thanks for taking the time to respond. I am still trying to trouble shoot my old system and decide how to proceed. Got a lot to think about. Hope all is well with you and your family.
