No idea how to connect these surround sound speakers built into my wall

Can you help? I have four Cambridge SoundWorks speakers embedded in the walls of an "entertainment room" in our house. I opened the cable connection panel in the wall, like the original owner instructed, and found a bunch of weird-looking cables that I believe go to the speakers but they're extremely short and I have no idea how they're supposed to connect to anything.

Pictures attached & inserted.

That's what I was thinking too. The cables are all inside the wall, so I have no idea what it looks like back there. Supposedly they connect to the speakers, though, of which there are four around the room. I'm at a loss.

The first thing to do is spice extensions onto the speaker wire, so you can get them long enough to connect to something. Butt splices are probably best. Perhaps there is a bit of slack in the wall that you can pull in. Be mindful of polarity – one side of the speaker wire will have ribbed ridges.

You need to get bare wire on the ends, by stripping off the insulation with wire stripper. Then extend the cables with terminal strip connector.

Now you can connect a battery to each wire pair in turn and make a break the connection. Each speaker will go click/click as you make and brake. That will tell which wire goes to each speaker.

Now why would they cut the wires like that? That's just mean.

ps what's in the way of just running new wire from the speakers themselves thru that access?

Just make absolutely sure there is no voltage on any of those wires before you do anything. There are testers out there that when passed by a live wire will light up or beep. Next, if you cannot rerun the wires get a fox and hound setup so you can place a tone on a wire and trace it to the other side. Alternately you could hook a wire long enough to reach where the other end of the wire should be and track them down one by one looking for a continuity test tone to get to the other side.
