Hi I have a question regarding blu ray. I presently run a denon 3805 which does not have hdmi. If I buy a blu ray player how do I get uncompressed audio or can I.

Thanks.

I believe that to get the lossless codecs with the 3805, you'll need to get a blu-ray player with multi-channel analog outputs, have the blu-ray player do the decoding, and connect those outputs to the multi-channel analog inputs on the 3805. I don't know if the version of Denon Link on that receiver would allow transfer of the lossless codecs from a Denon blu-ray player.

To be honest, I think that Dolby Digital and DTS sound darn near as good as the new lossless codecs.

Yep. That 3805 is a solid piece of gear. Analog outs. Here is one place I think spending some cash on custom cables for the analog connections is worth it. If you use 2m cables and only need 1m's worth of cable, the extra cable adds up fast and can take up a lot of space and look pretty nasty..........
If you search sacd on ebay in the analog cables they come up pretty often.
And I tried the whole new codec thing and I just don't think it lives up to the hype. I DO think the blu ray video is 100% worth the time.

I've been studying this aspect as my receiver doesn't have HDMI either. But it's a decent receiver so I don't want to give it up. There are good blue-ray players out on the market that have the multi-channel analog output. Generally, not the bargain base models, but the next step or two up from the base model.

For example, not the Panasonic DMP-BD60K. But the DMP-BD80K does have it. I've seen the DMP-BD80K for decent prices and sales can get it below $250. So you don't need to go for the Oppo 83 to get the audio output. But then don't tell my wife that...

Blu-ray audio is definitely better. I just watched Inglorious Bastards last night and the dts-hd master audio was incredible. A huge difference in my opinion.
