I cannot get the DTS indicator lights to come on or have the option for "DTS" on my new yammy, both of my players are correctly set for dts output, dvd input is auto and will not play on "dts", the back of the dvd case has the dts logo , (jurassic III). Maybe the store replaced the disc with a non dts version?? I will try another disc tonight.

Any other help with the best soundfields during movies would be appreciated, i just got the 2500 and am learning quickly. I am running 5.1, YPAO is set, the movie did sound awesome on DDIIx.

Thanks!
T.

on your DVD player, after you've inserted the movie, have you gone into a menu called something like "audio options" or something like that. on many, if not all, DVD's that have DTS, you have to go into the DVD menu for each particular disc and specifically select DTS audio.

When the 2500 is powered on it is by default in auto mode regardless of input selected. I wish it would not do this but it does. There are a lot of people with RX-V2500's that say they set to auto mode as far as the decoding preference is concerned not knowing that when they turn off the unit and then power on again, it is in auto mode. As far as auto is concerned the 2500 is not going to know the software(dvd) is dts if the dvd itself is not"flagged" or encoded with a signal that notifies the 2500 as to the signal it is receiving. Most dvd's are not flagged. Therefore one must go to movie menu setup and manually choose sound option whether it be dts, dd5.1, etc. You most likely have dvd player setup correctly. You really can't have it set but one way or another. So put in a dts movie, go to movie menu, choose dts soundtrack, and I bet when movie gets in the first chapter ,if not before, the dts indicator will light up as it should on your 2500. I know the 2500 inside out as I have owned one for nearly a year. It can be a little tricky if not understood. It does alot of things but it will not bring you breakfast in bed. I think that will follow the hdmi craze.

that was the only dts disc i had at the time. Anyway, last night i double checked ALL of my settings on my yam and my player and did NOT change any of them , they were all correct. I popped in the disc and "dts" lights up on the display much to my surprise. The only change made before and after is that both units were powered down previous to "dts" working properly???

Thanks again all !

Of all the DVDs I've rented or owned, I've never come across a DTS only DVD. When you insert a DVD and you get passed all the crap, ie future releases etc, you will come across a menu option. There will be an option called "Languages" or "audio options" or "setp". Its in this menu where you can choose wether to read the DTS or the Dolby 5.1 surround output . This is the signal that gets fed to your receiver. If you choose DTS, then thats what the receiver will recieve and decode accordinlgy. IF you don't choose DTS, then by default, it choose Dolby5.1 surround. Hope this helps.

blwn46,
Don't know about your player, but my remote for my dvd player has an "AUDIO" button. I start the movie/concert, then I just push it until I get the audio choice I want. It keeps me from having to look for the audio option on the disc. These freaks can't seem to decide where they want to put that option as mentioned by 3db. Sometimes set-up, sometimes audio, and sometimes langauge.

...must agree. Should there not be a standard. I dislike it when you have to choose 'audio' options under 'language'...what's up with that?! I too have an audio button on dvd remote that lets me choose without having to go into the main menu which is a real pain in the arsenal.
