Hi everyone. New to all of this so bare with me. Recently purchased Klipsch synergy quintet 3 5-piece and klipsch 10" 420 watt sub. With Sony 630 watt 6.1 ch model str-dg710 reciever. Purchased all for $700 at best buy just before christmas. all connected to Samsung 50" plasma. So I started out connecting all video with component. and audio with RCA. At that point, life was good. was able to control the sub no problem (gain and low pass). then went to HDMI hook up. Can't really pinpoint it, but around that same time I lost control over my sub. Meaning, the gain or low pass nobs will not do anything.... It sound like the are both full bore even if they are turned all the way down. So I have the EQ on reciever and the output for the sub on the reciever turned all the way down just to make it barable. The sub is hooked up with a monster cable. It has a single rca on each end. One end in the sub out on the reciever and the other going into the line in on the sub which is white. The other one is the LFE which is red, but I have nothing in that one. Could the HDMI be the problem???? Any help would be greatly appreciated. THanks

Did you change anything else besides replacing the component cables and digital audio feeds to the receiver with the one HDMI cable?

HDMI is still the wild west in that not all units are all capable of the same things. We would like to think that that one magical connection will solve all problems but, in the end, many times it creates more.

IOW, it may not be passing a digital audio signal to the receiver and/or your receiver isn't capable of knowing it's there and/or decoding it as it did the digital or coaxial audio feed.

Nope, that was the only thing I changed. I also did a reset to default on the reciever, just like it was when I origanly set it up. I really like my set up, but this sub thing has me worried something big is wrong with it. I guess my starting point would be to go back to the way I had it, its just way more cables then I would like to have back behind the short ent center.

Here is something to try: Try the RCA cable going from receiver “sub out” to subwoofer “LFE” (which means subwoofer low frequency effects). If it doesn’t work then you can always put it back the way you had it. (Be sure power is off when changing cables).

well.... I went back to the original setup with component cables for video and rca for audio. it was fine for a day... then it did the same thing, no control over subwoofer gain or low pass. its like everything to do with the subwoofer is turned way up and way to much bass, so then I have to back it down on the reciever to be bareable. I need help and this problem is buming me out. ANY SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED!!

Or Klipsch subs are trash. They're nice when they work.. but they seem don't work often. I have a 10" Klipsch sub as well, the same one that comes in the Quintet package [and presumably the one you have]. After a good year of normal use [I never pushed it], my auto-on now works about half the time.

When it doesn't work, the subwoofer lets a huge "FUMP" loose, and then does nothing. No sound, although the nice green light stays on for me. The only thing to do then is unplug it, turn it on, turn it off, plug in back in, turn it on. Nothing else will get it to work again. And ofc this starts happening 1.5 months after warranty is up.

Same Klipsch sub - auto-on problem

My Klipsch sub auto-on quit working completely. The sub seems to work okay if I leave it in the on postion. I will check later I have either the 10" or the 12'". I also had the "frump" for awhile nad then it too went away.

I can remember in my earlier wilder days this one large popular night club had Klipsch speakers all over the place and I thought they were very good, especially after a few drinks . I think my sub problems have tainted my impression of Klipsch.
