No Component Video w/ Onkyo Receiver

I have an Onkyo tx-sr503 that for some reason, will not display component video. As a test, I connected the cable from the dvd player to the tv and it works just fine. When I try to connect it from the dvd player to the receiver then to the tv there is no video. The receiver is set to dvd and the audio plays just fine (it's set to digital optical). When I plug in the s-video cable everything works just fine. I have unplugged everything from the receiver (and left just the speakers, dvd audio, and component cables plugged in) to see if there is some "auto detect" on the receiver. I just can't figure it out. Is there some switch or setting on the receiver I missed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You have to turn it on in the setup, refer to the manual for details on how do it if you can't find how to do it. If you don't have the manual you can download one for free at Onkyo's website in tech support.

The 503 does not allow you to assign any old input selector to a component video input. To connect your dvd player, you must use the component input that says 'DVD IN'. When the DVD input on the front panel (or via remote) is selected, the dvd in component video input is activated.

Also make sure the component video cables going to the TV are connected to the component video OUT. The TV of course will have to be set to its component video input.

It was unclear to me whether you were trying to use s-video from the dvd player to the receiver and then component video from the receiver to TV or just tried s-video alone as a troubleshooting step. The 503 likely does not transcode from composite/s-video to component. (The 502 definitely does not).

I am using component cables straight through from dvd to tv.

I don't know about the setup feature on the receiver. I've looked through the manual for it and I can't seem to locate it. Is there a button combination to press?

There is no setup for component video on the 5xx series Onkyos. The input is not assignable. Is the dvd player connected to component video 'dvd in' on the Onkyo?

Yes it is. I unplugged everything from the receiver except the dvd component in , digital optical in, component out, and the speaker connections. I've even tried swapping the component in/dvd out just in case I somehow miss-labeled the wires. Is it possible there is something wrong with the cable connecting the dvd player to the receiver? I don't have access to another component cable to test it at the moment.
