I'm brand new to the forum and stereo equipment in general and could use a little advice. I recently purchased a Yamaha RX-V657 receiver. I'm having trouble connecting my TV to the receiver. It is an older TV but it does have the S video connection and audio inputs. I don't have digital cable so there is no cable box. Should I look into getting digital cable to get the box and thus sound from the tv through the receiver?? Should I be looking at going through my VCR for the sound? Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. I know my question is very basic to most of you but if you could have seen me tangled in a sea of cords the other day you would have had mercy on me hahaha!!!

Does your TV have audio outputs? That would be the way to get sound through your stereo. You can do the VCR route also, the only difference being you'll need to turn the VCR on to listen with the stereo.

I've got to double check when I get home today. I'm thinking that it only has two sets of audio/video inputs as well as the s video input. So if I go through the VCR I hook the cable from the wall into the VCR/cable in, then coax from the VCR to the TV? Then red/white RCA's from the VCR audio out to VCR 1 input on the receiver?
