No BS Power Cable needed

I need a replacement power cable for my Optoma HD-72 projector. The one supplied is a little too short. When I add an extension cord it is too long, as well as in the way. I am look ing for a good quality power cord that is shielded. Everything I find out there is either $165 snake oil or a cheaply constructed $1.99 PC cable. Anyone know of a source for a quality power cable without all of the BS?

How big of one do you need? Is the included one 6 feet? If you wanted to make one yourself, you should be able to find all the parts you'd need at Home Depot or Lowes. Or, if you prefer online shopping, check out Parts Express. Their website is www.parts_express.com (take out the underscore). Look for the following part numbers:

110-400
110-403
100-577

Yes, the one that came with it is slightly longer than 6 feet. I will check at Home Depot, I didn't think they had the PC type ends there but worth a try.

Thanks

They might not carry it, but with so many devices using it they should. I have not personally shopped for the item.

You might also want to consider that termination if you are going to build your own cable (since it is of a slimmer design).

Also, if the terminations you select hold the power cord via unsightly, external screws, I would reccommend that you use some heatshrink tubing for a more uniform appearance.

Seriously, I have no life.
Your sig line reminds me of the movie V for Vendetta :D and the line in it. The people shouldn't have to fear their government. The government should fear their people.

Out of curiosity, what's wrong with a 10-foot PC cable? Those things are more than capable of supplying kilowatt-level power.

10 ft PC Cable

Nothing is wrong with a 10' PC cable per se. At my local Mega-PC retailer an aftermarket power cable from Belkin was almost $50. I wanted a quality cable but did not feel the need to pay so much for it. If I had had a PC cable laying around that was long enough I would have used that.

$50.00 for 10 feet of a power cable with a female and male end? I paid less than that for a 50' foot 15amp 12/3 extension cord (the kind designed to run heavy duty power tools).

Does anything seem wrong with that? I know I am forgetting how Belkin probably has monks on a mountain monestary do sacred chants and rub oils into the cable for maximum performance but...

Speaking of snake oil, I must say it's amazing how well these companies do, the more outlandish their claims, the higher the price, and yet regardless of how the product performs the more satisfied the customer is that he got the best. From simple marketing terms of "phase six" to a simple thing as directional arrows it amazes me how they find a way to take a product that is similar to most other products on the market, make it stand out, and price it higher than the competition. How many people do you know that buy Monster, Bose or something similar (all decent products for what they are supposed to do but their marketing can be over the top) and next thing you know they went from not even knowning a technical term to preaching the merits of their new product like a believer.

You can try educating them but they somehow believe the 17yr old prophet I mean teenage at Best Buy is the educated one and you're simply misinformed. I guess as long as the person is happy with their product and doesn't go on and on how it has phase 6 sigma gamma correctional wave technology, it's alright
