Phil, I'm pretty sure that the 918 can process audio from HDMI. The 818 can't.
Yeah, spoke with my Pioneer Rep today and he informed my of that. However, it looks like the all new 919 will also be able to do so, but include the lossless audio codecs. That is very impressive given the respective price point. Kudos to Pioneer!!!! Once again, thanks for your help Adam. ;);)

Cheers,

Phil

guys, thanx for your concern. Phil, no hard feelings AT ALL. i love the machine, and i am glad i bought it from you, THANX AGAIN :)

i stopped at wally world on the way home from work, and picked up an optical cable. got home, plugged it in, set the input, and it is working fine. kinda,i somehow lost the onscreen menu for the reciever. but was able to use the receiver display to set it.

wth would pioneer put an hdmi that only does video, on AUDIO gear. sheeeeesh.

i would have bought a better reciever. but when i bought this one a few months ago, but, 5.1 was the only thing i wanted. i had NO plans to get blu-ray or an HDTV....
IT ALL YOUR GUYS FAULTS !!!
and i want to say THANX. while this gear can be a steep learning curve (for the humble brian that i have). the result is just plain FANTASTIC !
Thanks Jesse. I was a bit concerned. As I should of asked you what receiver you had. I have been very busty selling my gear or perhaps I would had. Anyways, glad you are happy with the Panny. If I were you, I would wait for the new 919 to come out and get one.

Cheers,

Phil

its my fault for not knowing the receiver was not hdmi compatable, not yours. never the less, i would have bought it anyway. its the best out there in my price range. so i wanted it.... i'm going to run the gear i have now for a while, perhaps another sub, but thats it. its looks/sounds pretty darn good for what it is. down the road, who knows. i'm going to let technology advance.

Sounds like a very logical plan if you ask me. Just keep your eye on the Pioneer 919. It should be available in April/May of this year. Glad to hear you are happy with your purchase of the Panny. Have a blessed evening my friend.

Cheers,

Phil
