ahoy there:

Butterfingers here again. Recently had an audio guy set up my home theater system with special attention given to programming all my remotes into a single unit (Marantz r7300) All was working well, and then for no known reason, the system lost the abililty on 5.1 / dts playback on DVD movies only.Oddly enough, the 5.1 playback on the high def. cable box works just fine. Ive looked through all the setups on the receiver & DVD menus and cant find anything to restore it. Appreciate anybody out there who can walk me through this.

marantz 7000 receiver, DVD S77 panasonic , Motorola high def cable box dct13436
Samsung dlp 5064

thx:D

Check your digital Optical or Coaxial cable connection, between your DVD player and your Receiver.
Also make sure that in the audio setup menu of your DVD player,
the Digital Out is set to "Bitstream".

*** And finally, select the appropriate audio soundtrack from the DVD disc audio menu.

*** That last phrase might be your ticket ^.

no 5.1

Thanks O dear Lord. Well it worked when I set the DVD audio to bit stream but what puzzles as just as much is that how did it dis-figured itself. Can this happen by fumbling around with the remote?
Everything else is OK except when I play my DVD-Audio disc.It only plays in stereo. The disc itself is set by default to 6 channel stero as you would expect. My receiver is set to "auto" which used to pick up the 6 channel default but not anymore.Accepting all offers. thx again and all the best.

Hi. My DVD player will reset to its default settings (which include PCM output for Dolby Digital and DTS) if it is unplugged for a while. Perhaps that same thing happened to your player while it was being set up.

1. Just like Adam said, it will revert to it's Default settings if unplug from the wall outlet.

2. As for DVD-Audio, you do have to select the multichannel audio track each and every time from the DVD-Audio disc's audio menu setup.

*** And also reset your player DVD-Audio analog output to "Multichannel", just like you did for the digital output of DD & DTS, by selecting the "Bitstream" setting.
