I have an HK335 working as my prepro and an RMB1077 amp.

I plan to use an AC/DC 12v converter with a 3.5mm jack (300-350mah) plugged into the switched outlet of the HK to trigger on the 1077.

will it be safe for my amp to do this?

(I heard of this idea from another forum and confirmed from the Outlaw website FAQ that there really are people who do this)

That should be fine. Just verify the max rating listed next to the switched outlet on the back of the receiver - most likely it will say '120V, 1A max' which will be well above the 300 mA of the trigger.

will update when it works (still splicing an adaptor plug)

I would think that should work, Mike. I considered something like that myself previously, but I ended up killing two birds w/one stone by picking up a Belkin PureAV Home Theater Power Console PF31.

I needed more outlets than my TrippLite Isobar had, plus the PF21 also had a 'remote on' switched outlet feature that pretty much performs the same function, so this was a more expensive workaround than the one you mentioned, but b/c I needed the additional outlets anyway, this fit the bill for me... -TD

confirmed ... it works. this has been the best bang for the buck upgrade I've ever done. now I can sit on my lazy a$s (except to get chips and pee) all of the 1 hour I have in front of my HT.

tom, I wish we had something like that here, its what's stopping me from buying pro amps.

I was lucky enough tograb one (IIRC) for just under $150 from Buy.com a few months ago, not sure how I stumbled across that but it's back up to $250... :(

If you're really interested in finding one, I'd do some searching on that particular unit. Every now and then it drops down in price that makes it a bit more reasonable, though not quite to the point of your workaround... :D -TD

"plus the PF21 also had a 'remote on' switched outlet feature"

TomD - Is this what Belkin refers to as a "high current" outlet? I see no mention of a switched outlet on Belkin's site. Also, does this setup allow this outlet to be switched on when firing up a receiver? I have the same problem with my Adcom. No trigger and I've been trying to find a way to fire the amp through my Harmony remote. - B

Actually Bob, I was going to suggest the PF21 as an alternative, but I don't know if it has 'switched' outlets and I know it does not have the AC trigger that you and Mike were looking for.

The PF31 and I believe the higher end models have both the DC trigger (12v) and the AC trigger for the 'switched' outlets... -TD

Thanks Tom. I'll keep my eyes open for the "nice price". - B
