I'm supposed to pick up a Nikko Alpha 650 amp tomorrow. This thing is a beast which worries me a little. I've seen the unit power up and its very clean. I've got him down to $350. Is that a good deal? One of my concerns is power draw. I have a 65" TV a Marantz SR7013 and 2 HSU VTF-1 that's running on one circuit not to mention the living room lights. I'm thinking I might trip a breaker. The good thing is I'm buying this from a brick and mortar store and have 1 week to return it. On the back of this amp it has XLR, stereo and RCA connections. The RCA connections are "direct" and normal. I was going to test the amp through a Yamaha CR-600 into some 100 watt speakers that I don't care if they blow. I was told on the Yamaha CR600 I needed to switch the coupler on the back to off and plug the RCA in the normal input on the amp. Does that sound correct? If it works properly I plan on hooking it up to the Marantz and power my fronts and hope the breaker doesn't trip. Stereo listening just doesn't have the punch for me plus it would free up 2 channels. This is my first straight amplifies and any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

It's a fairly old amp. Seems a bit overpriced to me for its age or was it recently refurbished or something?

As to power draw wouldn't worry too much, I have far more than that on one outlet (four power amps and an avr plus tv for major power uses on that outlet) but I have modest spl requirements. Not sure how you're planning on multich system with an old stereo receiver like the Yamaha, altho it has pre-outs for using an external amp easily enough. Are you trying to run dual stereo sets of speakers or something?

Vintage audio has really become a big thing and prices reflect that. This unit looks like it's been refurbished but I'm not sure. An amp like the Nikko Alpha 650 fully restored would sell for over a $1000. I have a friend who can restore the unit and a store I visit often that carries vintage audio where I could put it on consignment. My plan is to keep the unit, well at least until the next irresistible buy comes along. I want to connect it to my Yamaha CR 600 receiver first just to test out the amp running 2 speakers to make sure there's no problems. I eventually will pair it with my SR7013.
