Nightmare of a room...set-up help needed

So I will be moving into a new apartment and its a horrible place to have a theater room but I don't have any choice so I need some help with ideas for speaker set ups.

I attached a picture, its the best I could do. As for dimensions the room is about 12 foot by 12 foot. Now for the problem as seen in the picture I have to mix this with my dining room (stupid small apartment). So I need help with my 5.1 set up. The furniture (couch, table and entertainment center) are stuck where they are. Unfortunately, I also must use an entertainment center for my soon to be replaced flat screen because of it being a rented unit.

I have the speakers linked in my signature. I was planning on putting both floor standing speakers on the sides of the unit with the center on the wall above the tv :(. As for the surrounds I am at a loss on what to do here. I was thinking put one on the side of the couch but I have no idea where to put the other as it should be closer to the table but I don't know if I should get one speaker stand for the other. Also, I was thinking about putting the sub in the corner staggered behind one of the tower speakers.

Other specs:
  • The couch is 110 inches from the tv
  • Above the third cushion in the couch (closest to the table) there is a window :(
  • 91 inches from the door to the corner on the side where the entertainment center is located
  • about 2 usable feet between the chair of the dining table and the couch arm

If anything else is needed to be know please tell me.

Thanks for all the help.

If you're really stuck with the couch there, the only way you'll get halfway decent surround is to think outside the box. Pull the couch out maybe a foot and lay the surrounds on their back firing straight up from the floor. Any wall mounting or stand mounting is going to be unacceptable and way too localizable (or no surround effect at all).

I guess I should try and see if I can rearrange the room. What would you suggest doing in that case?

Bear in mind there is also a 67" window in th center of the wall that has the couches arm touching it.

Thanks

I'd put the setup on the wall with the window and have the couch out far enough from the opposite wall to walk behind. That would allow good surround placement, get your seat away from the wall for better bass response, etc.

Being in an apartment, I'd recommend against a subwoofer for the neighbors sake:)

I dont want to repeat what everybody else has already suggested, but I'd like to add that you could certainly place bass traps in corners where possible, and hang a few acoustic panels on the walls at first reflection points to dramatically improve the sound quality.

Square rooms are always a challenge but I am assuming that the 12' x 12' does not include the dining area.

Set up the display and front channels on the north wall and place the couch two thirds back from the north wall. Sitting against a wall is a no no acoustically. This arrangment will give you the most room for your equipment and should help with rear surround placement and front channel acoustics.
