nibhaz's system (pics)

So it’s been close to five years since I've posted any picture of my system. I’m sharing for those that like to look at pictures. There is nothing amazing or fancy going on here. Just a multipurpose system confined to an irregular space, with considerations for the Girl Friend Apperception Factor.

Font soundstage: Mains should be further apart for perfect equilateral triangle for music, but the fish tanks is in the way. Need a bigger screen…but who doesn’t?:D I’m approved to put panels behind the mains when I get around to it.

Dark pic of high GFAF acoustic panel: 2” of 705 with 2” air gap.

Low GFAF acoustic panels: 4.5” 705 with 1.5” air gap. This is despite the fact that she picked out the fabric via cell phone picture while she was out of town. The fact that they enter the room by 6” did not go over well when she got home. Big panel building dreams halted.

Unfinished SCA (super chunk absorber) solid 703. I’m lazy; it’s been in this state for a while now.

This panel is meh! Functional but nothing to write home about.

The rack. Cable box gets prominence for lazier channel flipping for the GF.

I love the convenience of HDMI, eyeballing the Oppo 980, to get SACD over HDMI.

Nice job of cable management. I have some work to do in that regard. Good job of balancing the WAF with essentials. Thumbs up.

Now that I'm not trying to squint and look at pics on my Blackberry, is that a Weimaraner?

Very nice set up indeed. It's really nice to see you put some thought into the acoustics. Seems like most people forget this aspect then wonder why there system does not sound that good. The room acoustics are the single most important aspect aside from the speakers.

Happy Listening !!!

It looks superb, nibhaz. I envy all the panels. (And I like your two pals! :))

Question...does the aquarium pump become distracting during movies or have you become acclimated to it being on all the time? Do you leave the light off during shows?

Everybody likes pic's.

You posting a pic's of the sound panels and the g/f has given me a great idea. I'm gonna make mine stand in the corner to see if she breaks up any room modes. I'll get back to you with my findings. :)

Your half right, some might call her more of an accident. Her father was a Weimaraner and her mother was an American pit bull terrier. She defiantly looks mostly weimarner unless you’re really looking for the pit.

When you build your own, you have more options. If you ever had your minions build you some this is the method I used. But you've proably already had a shipping container of panels sent to you already.:p

The pumps in the tank are pretty quite, or at least I don’t notice much any more. Below the tank in the picture is another 20 gallon tank which feeds the one in the picture. There are a series of baffles in this tank, and as water evaporates from the system you start to get a waterfall effect at the last baffle before the tank return. If you keep the system topped off, the overall noise floor stays pretty low. Most of my movie watching is later in the evening, after the Metal Halide has shut down. The actinic lighting from 8-10pm is very inconspicuous.
