Hi, all. Does anyone have any knowledge/thoughts about the ICE modules used in the NHT Power5 versus those used in the Wyred4Sound Mini MC 5?

I'm interested in trying out a Class D amp for the lower weight and higher efficiency, but I'm pretty ignorant about the different modules that are out there (I know about the ICE ones, and I thought that there was a newer type that people here have mentioned). The NHT Power5 (discontinued) comes up for sale from time to time. It's quite a bit less expensive than the W4S Mini MC 5, but I don't know if the newer W4S amp has better ICE modules in it that would sound better.

I appreciate any thoughts that you have, regarding those two amps or if a better system is out/close to being out. Thanks!

I've been kicking around the idea of a new class d amp as well and was hoping you'd get some responses from the more technically astute members here. I've just been thinking class D vs. specifically ICE modules.

Unfortunately I haven't heard either of the two amps you ask about.

I listened to a B&W CM9 based surround setup at a dealer powered by a Rotel 1575, which is a class d amp. It had plenty of juice to power the B&W's to listening levels too loud for me. I would think you'd be able to find a place to audition locally.

Pioneer has added two class d powered receivers to their lineup, as well as the elites which have been sold for a while. If you wanted to listen to class d amps I'm sure you could find them around.

Audio Research, Bel Canto make class d amps. Cary & PS Audio have made them in the past but it looks like they don't any longer.

D-Sonic is another boutique ID brand that makes class D amps. I've never heard them. Apparently some are ice powered and anothers are not (at least thats what I read in a review) M2 Series Amplifiers, Power Amplifiers & Class D Amplifiers for Sale Online

There are also a lot of inexpensive pro amps using class d now such as Crown, Behringer, Peavey, however they're probably using their own designs and not B&O modules.
