hi
just wondering what I can do to improve my Home Audio system. I guess I know generally all the things you can do but with limited money what is going add the most significant improvement, which should I do first?
I currently have
Rotel RCD991 (balanced, coax and optical digital outputs)connected with TRANSPARENT THE LINK 200 INTERCONNECTS to a
NAD C370 (120W Integrated but can be used as either a pre-amp or power) with silver something or other speaker cable £5/m to
Castle Harlechs 150W (first series) on spikes
all 5* recommended buy from Hi Fi choice or were in their time
Sony minidisc player
I also have a
Cyberhome DVD player, basic scart to tv, basic gold plate interconnects to Amp
Toshiba V-652UK VCR player, normal aerial cable to tv, basic gold plate interconnects to Amp
Sharp tv (60cm perhaps)
All are connected to 2 standard power boards
My room is reasonably large, approximately 5m wide, 8-10m long, 3-4m high, 3 very large windows at one end, carpet on top of v.old floor boards.
While I am on the look out for a hifi rack, currently the TV sits on top of the CD player on top of the Amp on a small table. VCR sits on top of the DVD player, on the ground under the table. One of the Harlechs is about 20cm from all of this.
So what next?
cheaper options...
Proper hi fi rack to separate all components and cables?
move system further from speaker?
Power management?
Power the CD player through the switched outlet of the Amp?
Better speaker cable?
Other cabling?
more expensive options....
DAC to use the digital outputs from the CD player (optical and coax)?
Pre-amp to use the balanced outputs from the CD player or to use the digital outputs?
Second amp (NAD C270) to bi amp the speakers?
Upgrade amp?
any other suggestions?
While this is not a current priority is there an easy way to upgrade the home theatre/surround sounds side of my system without compromising on the pure audio side and without completely new amp/speakers? Surround sound processer, second amp, second set of speakers? powered sub?
Greatful for any advice
Thanks
Andrew
