Next sub project, more questions

Hello all. Well, a friend of mine offered to buy my sub I just built so I am going to build another one for myself, with 2 12's. I was thinking of trying to get as small of a footprint as possible with 2 12" dayton High Fidelity's and have them down firing and rear ported. First question of the project: by having them down firing, should I incorperate a base plate to reflect the sound outward (like SVS) or should I put it on cone perch deals like HSU... I ask this because one would think that with a sub firing down at carpet, some sound would be absorbed? Not sure, I like the look of a box sitting up on those little cone dealys but if it sounds better, then I will mount in on a base plate. And yes, the theater rooms is regular carpet.

Bass frequencies are not easily absorbed. This is why you can hear the stereo thumping in the car next to you and almost nothing else. The little amount of carpeting under the spikes will make no difference in the sound if you dont have a bass plate.

On the other hand, a bass plate might be recommended if your sub will be in a high traffic area and in danger of getting bumped. You dont want the cones to get sheared off by accident.

yeah, that is pretty much what i was figuring. I think i may make it an end table with a 3/8" tempered glass top on rubber pillow isolators (no drink rings on box) that way it can be huge and not stick out too bad. However, it has to be extremely well braced and heavy as not to send drinks into a a frinzy.
