Next Gen HD Disc Players - Digital out only??

I have read several articles now that state that the next generation HD disc players (Blu Ray & HD-DVD) may only have high-definition video output via a digital connection. My HDTV only has analog component inputs and I really don't want to purchase a new TV.

Besides pissing people off with an unwanted format war, do you really believe that they will further piss people off by going ahead with this digital-only HD output? How can they leave hundreds of thousands of people who do not have DVI or HDMI inputs out in the cold?

Everything I've read is that this is a done deal and was actually decided on several years ago. I'm in the same boat as you with my Toshiba 56H80. My understanding is that the analog output will only be 480P.

Not sure if they will work, but some receivers with accept HDMI in and output Component. it would interesting to see how it would work.

Most only up convert and not down convert. But with DRM I'm not sure that would work anyway.

It's all this digital rights managment thing. Analog signals are prone to being copied. While digital signals can at least have the semblence of protection. Although I'm sure eventually they will be cracked as well.

I'm sure some companies will start selling digital to analog converters in the future. But they will probably charge a hefty fee for it, to pay those greedy big movie studios.
