First post, however I have a dilemna...I was ready to purchase the new Pioneer 816s, and the store owner gave me such a sweet deal to purchase a Pioneer 1015s for $450 CDN. So for about $90 difference, I can purchase the slightly older model 1015s. I have read reviews and specs of both, but would like to know from audiholics what would be a better choice to own. I like the idea of the XM Ready feature, however its not a deal breaker. If there is a noticable sound improvement over the 816, that would be my priority.

What speakers?

The 1015 will have more power and features than the lower model. Depending on your speaker system, it may be a worthwhile upgrade. I have the XM radio in the car but I am not using the XM ready feature on my Yamaha receiver because it would require a seperate subscription.

The 1015 isn't that old. The 1016 is not selling yet except on pre-orders.

As for a $90 cdn. difference between the 1015 and 816. No competition, go with the 1015. The 1015 includes parts from Pioneer's Elite series. Some of the regular forum members also own the 1015.

When the new model comes out . . .

You will probably be able to get a better price on the 1015.
